Margaret (Maggie) Miller  Lafferty Ward born in Washington County, Arkansas in a covered wagon. Her parents were Austin James Lee Lafferty (son of Jacob Binks Lafferty and Sarah Miller) and Mary Harriet Woody.

The family had moved from Greene County Missouri where Austin had moved to during the Civil War. He returned with a family to Arkansas then moved onto Parker County, Texas about 1876. He settled there for a short while. About 1905 unable to make a decent living Austin and the older boys went to Oklahoma and picked cotton until they had enough money to send for the rest of the family. Maggie had already married in Parker County and did not move with the family.

Maggie married Marvin J. Ward. Marvin's step mother also named Margaret Miller Lafferty Ward was Maggie's paternal aunt. Maggie and Marvin had four children: Hattie M. Ward who married Edd Kearby; Clarence F. Ward who married Iola Williams; Nelle Mae Ward who married Herman Moore Wood; Roy Binks Wood who married Grace Oleta Thompson and then Clara Holt. They lived out their lives in Parker County, Texas.
